Re: Notice of Suspension
Subj: Arlew Gripps, Special Crimes Unit

Officer Gripps:

It has come to our attention that there have been several allegations against you that violate the Pallad City Police Department’s sexual harassment policy. The most recent of these claims was made by Officer Elizabet Mattix, who wished to go on public record as stating that you made inappropriate physical contact with her while on duty. In her own words, she alleged that you, “groped my behind,” and proceeded to make comments unbecoming of an officer, which Ms. Mattix found, “somehow even more offensive in their ridiculousness than the act of him groping me.”

We have investigated this matter and have spoken with multiple witnesses. I have accepted the recommendations of the Hearing Officer and I find there is just cause to impose discipline. I am issuing you a two (2) day suspension without pay.

It is the Department’s earnest desire that this letter serve as a deterrent against future acts of related nature. Any prospective acts of the same or similar conduct may lead to progressive discipline. A record of this disciplinary sentence will remain in your personnel file for a period of six (6) months.

I suggest that, while on your temporary leave, you review the Pallad City Police Department’s policy on sexual harassment in the workplace.

Respectfully,
Victor Hardiman
Chief of Police
