MAKING THE GRADE:
SUMTER ACADEMY
By Meghan Lindt
Cost vs. Value
At a cost of $240,000 for annual tuition, some have questioned if students at Sumter Academy are actually getting an education worth the hefty price tag. However, it’s not so much the education itself that wealthy parents are paying for, it’s the status and clout of Sumter’s name—which is what top universities are primarily interested in. Over the years, universities have become so desperate to enroll Sumter alumnae, students (regardless of GPA) are often bombarded with acceptance letters before a single application is sent. Prestige has become paramount and grades have taken a back seat to institutional reputation, driving universities to fill their student body with the “cream of the crop” even if in name only.

Head mistress likes to wear lace, not leather, and is a total sub in private
but….they told me they were going to send me to a military academy if I didn’t smarten up…isn’t this it ?
What, seriously? The headmistress or whatever has a riding crop? She just get back from the school’s stables? Huh, I’d like to see her fork a horse in that dress.
Maybe she rides ‘English’
Riding Crops are often used to hitting students… It’s like people hitting others with rulers…
Reena’s not real good at getting into the role, is she? This seems like it might not go well.
Seriously? A horse crop?? What are the laws in this century!? Is it still even the 21st century? Did we go back to the early 1900s or something?
So many questions…
Madison’s expression on that last panel is pure gold.
OH MY GOD, She has a riding crop! Reena, RUN! I sympathize with Madison. 😆
