Officer Database // Medical Evaluation
Patient: Madison Wynter
Police Physician: Raye Belanie, MD
[Examination Forwarded to Chief Hardiman]
Due to Ms. Wynter’s most recent injuries I’m requesting she be removed from active duty for two weeks. Previously, I suggested requiring her to take a few days off but—much to my disappointment and concern—this was never enforced. I also requested that her daily hours be shortened. Again, this has yet to happen.
At the very least, Ms. Wynter should be given less-physically demanding duties until she can fully recover. I’ve read her most recent case report, where she received injuries while physically engaging with three individuals who were under the influence of Afterlife. The medical examination, if you can call it that, lasted for all of five minutes before she left my office.
I expected, when accepting the position of Operational Police Physician, that I would have enough influence to ensure at-risk officers received the necessary time off and—should they refuse to comply—it would be within my power to deem such necessary time off mandatory. Apparently, this is not the case.
Days ago you mentioned that you would speak with Ms. Wynter. If you have not yet done so, I urge you to make time as soon as possible.

Raye very much seems to be doing the right thing. Here’s hoping she’s about to get through to Madison and reach the underlying issue – whether that be disregard for her own well-being (or indeed life) or just keeping busy to avoid feelings catching up with her.
I wonder whether Hardiman spoke to Madison, to no effect, or deemed it too futile to try. And what he does next.
Yeah, if I was the doctor, I’d be threatening to quit if I didn’t have the power to enforce mandatory time off for recovery and such of problem officers like Madison.
IF she’s a full MD, and not just the company sawbones (And American labor laws apply here), she has absolute authority to order Madison off-duty for as long as she sees fit. She wouldn’t be able to make Madison stay home and rest, but she would be able to force the department not to put her back on active duty until Raye gives the green light. In fact, she’d be legally ablt to extend Madison’s inactivity, if she thinks Madison is blowing her off.
It’s probably also a matter of the Madison’s superiors enforcing the mandatory time off. I really wouldn’t be surprised if the department is understaffed and Madison’s superiors just ignore what the doctor suggests. It would explain why Gripps still has his badge after multiple reports of sexual harassment and such.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if there is some corrupt leadership in the police that wouldn’t mind letting Madison do what she wants in the hopes that she overworks herself and get killed.
All that said, I get the feeling Matti will find a way to stay on duty. We know she’s bull headed. The doctor mentions Madison’s sleep. We know if we don’t sleep well that will affect our life in every aspect. Maybe the sleep card is something in the doc’s favor. That might work.
I want to know how any examination with Gripps went/goes. I can’t imagine Dr. Belanie would take his behavior lightly.
