PCPD DATABASE ENTRY T-03: BID CHIP TECHNOLOGY
The BID chip is a bio-identification microchip, smaller than a grain of rice, that is implanted under the skin (in the fleshy part of the hand between the thumb and index finger). Around 95% of the population has them and many are implanted at an early age.
Designed to function as a universal identity token, the BID chip serves multiple purposes: it contains an individual’s identification data, medical records, driver’s license, bank account information, and can be used to make financial transactions. With the use of a BID chip, an individual’s unique bio-data may also be “keyed” to log into electronic devices, access smart tech applications, start a vehicle, and even unlock doors.
BID CHIPS AND FIREARMS
The law mandates that weapon manufacturers must make their firearms in accordance with the Telson Act “Smart Gun” provision. As such, every gun is now equipped with a chip that “communicates” a signal solely to its user’s BID chip. Only a registered user can fire their own weapon. Any individual who attempts to use a firearm already registered to someone else will find the weapon “ID-locked” and will be unable to depress the trigger.
The BID chip implementation prevents criminals from getting their hands on a gun, or allowing anyone to steal a police firearm. In the event an individual attempts to commit a crime with a registered gun, the weapon could be remotely jammed by the central computer at police HQ. Recently, many public locations have designated “Safe Zones” where guns will not fire (except for police-issued weapons). The inclusion of chips makes weapons easier to track as well.
Due to this “smart gun” technology utilizing BID chips, criminals often seek out black-market firearms that have not been upgraded or BID-locked yet. While these older model weapons are becoming increasingly difficult to find, an estimated 2.6 million non-BID integrated firearms still exist. Underground crime rings have recently resorted to 3D printed guns, even if these can be unreliable and prone to failure.
Danger Zone One. Story by Midnight. Art by Salaiix.
It seems that the policeman put on rubber gloves in order to protect himself from the electric shock, after he tries to fire the Atma pistol, in order to demonstrate the safety feature to Madison Wynter.
Those BID chips–holy police state, Batman.
Wonder what on the agenda for Madison today? A brand new gun upgrade?
So what happens when you have two people wrestling over a gun, one with the matching chip and one without? Or if someone slices off the owner’s hand and wraps their own hand around it, kind of like what Wesley Snipes did with the jailer’s eye to get out of prison in Demolition Man? What’s the range of that sensor?
The BID chips sound an awful lot like the idea the New World Order wishes to implement globally someday. And it’s an idea that goes way back to the 1960’s. They’ve already started in Sweden:

Just a thought. The weapons should also be keyed to the armory personnel. Having been in the Army and worked in the arms room, I would see this as a necessity. Makes sense from several different levels. Unless the weapon would only take one BID, which I would deem as a flaw.
If the BID chip only prevents the gun from being fired, then it may not be necessary. Just as there are “safe” zones, there could be “danger” zones where the gun can be fired by anyone (e.g. at a firing range; specifically at the spot where the gun has to be to shoot at the target).
Of course if the BID chip also prevents the gun from being unloaded or reloaded, then you might need to have it registered to the armory.
The problem with either it being registered to the armory or accepting a “danger” zone is if either of these can be replicated either easily or portably. If they can, then bad guys would stop at nothing to get ahold of it.
2000AD had that idea decades ago: the Lawgiver firearms were DNA-locked to a specific Judge, difference being if anyone else tried to fire one, it exploded and the perp is lucky if they only lost their hand
