Chapter 22, Page 57
The following is a review from Superior Arms, a monthly publication featuring news, reviews, and specifications on the latest firearms, military-grade tech and gear available on the market.
Reviewing the Magnetic Return System (W&D Mod Kit)
By Conran Yeri
Released last year by Welling & Dawson, the Magnetic Return System (MRS) for the ATMA 81-J may be one of the most unique handgun mods currently on the market. The custom kit comes with a handgun grip replacement and two polythalate neoleather gloves. Inside the grip is a powerful vodymium micro magnet, which W&D refers to as the “rapid returner” mechanism.
Once the new grip is installed, all it takes is a snap of a gloved finger, thereby “exciting” a magnet in the glove’s palm, and the firearm is instantly pulled to the wearer’s hand.
According to W&D, the Magnetic Return System is effective from a distance of up to 30 feet. We tested it and we actually managed to get it to work at just under 35 feet. To our surprise, the MRS was very effective and does exactly what W&D promises. The MRS is an amusing feature but, despite the brief bit of fun we had with it, the mod is really nothing more than a novelty—and an expensive one at that. It’s great for trying out in the backyard, but hard to imagine how something like this would be useful in a real-world scenario.
As the time of this review, the MRS is only compatible with the ATMA 81-J. However, W&D recently announced that kits for other handguns will be available soon.

I love that view in panel 1
Same here
And she decides to only use it NOW, instead of this entire time after she’s been disarmed? Pffft.
When else was she going to use it? As soon as the robot attacked she went from being tossed onto the pool table, pummeled into a wall, and slammed into the floor one after the other. Not a lot of chances there.
And before all that, the other girl was holding the gun. Not like she had a lot of options there either.
Let’s not forget, Madison’s not in her normal mindset right now. She’s been hit with at least two kinds of drugs. It’s a miracle she has the will and mental capacity to put up any fight.
Don’t try to shoot the robot. Shoot something that lets collaps the building onto it!
YOU FOOL! THAT IS GENOCIDE!
It’s established that Madison’s a great shot, but she’s still in a dire situation here. Back on page 49 the android damaged her right wrist, and earlier in the chapter she was holding the gun with her right hand.
I hope for her sake she’s ambidextrous because firing a gun with your opposite hand can severely throw off your aim. The drugs might also mess with her marksmanship skills.
Given her military training and all the time she spends at the gun range, I’m sure Madison is proficient with her off hand.
Shoot the robot’s eye
With luck, maybe blinding it will cause it to flail wildly around and deck Wilkos and his friends.
Called it.
Thank you for the attention to detail. The gun is indeed now in Madison’s left hand, that being the hand she snapped her fingers with. As we’ve seen in the past (versus loco giant construction equipment) Madison shoots just fine with her off hand.
Uh oh. Armed or not, I think she’s still in for an uphill battle. Not long ago Madison mentioned that the room was spinning: https://dangerzoneone.com/comic/chapter-22-page-41/
Even if the android’s eye is its weak point, she might have trouble hitting it in her current condition.
She’s also outnumbered. If she takes out the android, Wilkos isn’t out of the fight yet.
Ay I forgot she could do that!
Magnetic, or magic-netic?
Still, that’s a pretty small gun. Shot placement will be critical.
I’ll always enjoy the future tech we see in this comic.
This may also be the ultimate example of Chekov’s Gun. Well written in that it was introduced earlier: https://dangerzoneone.com/comic/chapter-20-page-21/
But also had a subtle callback/reminder a few pages ago in the notes: https://dangerzoneone.com/comic/chapter-22-page-47/
It’s always a good idea to have something “ HANDY “ in order to tackle serious situations such as this, am I right? 😏😎😂

Shoot the ‘owner’…repeatedly… and the directives become superfluous.
The robot might shut down to await new instructions…or she might now own it 😉

HOW IN THE BLUE BLAZES DO YOU DARE TO THINK THAT THOSE THINGS ARE POSSIBLY GOING TO WORK?
And on a side note,Reena did share some sort of first kiss with another woman through both through the other woman’s drunken stupor and a little bit of force being used by that same woman. Think about THAT for a while.
I DARE to think that because this is fiction and anything can happen !!!
You need a little practice in suspending the disbelief, kid.
Besides, it’s most likely programmed by microslop and should bluescreen when trying to implement a directive to safeguard an owner that no longer exists, it’s probaby already glitched out for less 😉
The write up “review” is great. It really gives a feel that this is some real world tech.
Nice to see so many comments. This comic deserves all the attention and more. I’ve been a fan since the early chapters and the current storyline ranks among my favorite.
Could things turn around,or will things only get much worse?
