Blocking the airway and compressing the trachea (windpipe) of an opponent directly obstructs breathing, leading to oxygen deprivation and unconsciousness.

When applied correctly, it can take as little as 10 seconds of pressure on the carotid arteries or jugular veins to cause complete unconsciousness.
