Defacing School Mirrors:
To All Students:
It has come to my attention that a number of girls have been engaging in unacceptable behavior involving mirrors throughout this school, primarily in the lavatories. On repeated occasions, mirrors have been found defaced with lipstick messages, smears, and marks.
Let me make myself perfectly clear: this conduct is unbecoming of any student at Sumter Private Academy. The fact that a mirror can be wiped clean does not diminish the seriousness of deliberately defacing school property. It is also disrespectful to fellow students, staff, and faculty.
I have been made aware of rumors circulating among students that these acts are due to some childish urban legend. Whatever story inspired this behavior is no excuse for wanton vandalism. Furthermore, this school is governed by discipline, reason, and respect—not by gossip, superstition, or foolish pranks.
Effective immediately, any student found writing on a mirror with lipstick, leaving lipstick prints on it, encouraging others to do so, or otherwise participating in these acts will face serious disciplinary action. Depending upon the circumstances, consequences may include loss of privileges, suspension from certain activities, restitution for cleaning or damages, and/or further sanctions at my personal discretion.
I will be monitoring common areas more closely, and any student with knowledge of those responsible should bring that information to my attention without delay. Choosing to remain silent while school property is deliberately defaced is inconsistent with the standards of honesty and responsibility expected within this academy.
I trust that this letter will bring an immediate end to these juvenile antics. I should much prefer to devote my attention to celebrating your academic achievements and personal growth rather than addressing behavior more suited to a primary school.
Sincerely,
Ilsa Thorne
