Chapter 1, Page 16
Excerpt from Lyle Shiff’s bestselling travelogue, “Thirty Destinations You Should Die Before Visiting” published by Valco Press.
Pallad City is a sprawling metropolis perpetually teetering on the edge of chaos. Many officers in the PCPD have taken to calling Pallad City “DANGER ZONE ONE” due to the ever-increasing crime rates and hazardous environment in which they have to work. Despite its notoriety, the city is home to many megacorporations, fosters a booming economy, and has a thriving industrial sector. Regardless, many citizens (and some PCPD officers) look at these megacorps with disdain for their tendency to operate above the law.
A large portion of Pallad City underwent major reconstruction twenty-five years ago after the Kurtow earthquake, which left much of the area devastated and uninhabitable. Today, the Kurtow district—a massive section of wasteland cityscape that has yet to be remodeled—stands as a grim testament to the catastrophe two decades earlier.
Unbelievable as it may be, Pallad City has never topped the annual “Worst City” poll. That distinction goes to the neighboring megatropolis of Nu Metropol, one of the largest cities in the world. That said, Pallad City is still a far cry from the prestigious status of Old Metro or even Silica City.

Thanks for the kind words.
You might want to scale back the weight just a little further in case you want the Mech to ride a non-freight elevator.
Even now new materials such as graphene promise to bring the weight of armor down and typically the agility of a powersuit is meant to protect it from anti-tank weaponry while the armor is meant to protect against small arms.
Don’t forget that the biggest advantage of such a suit in close quarters is the use of HE ammo. The armor’s main function is to protect against spalling (high energy environmental fragments) caused by nearby explosions.
And naturally the suit will normally employ infrared imaging to see through the smoke and dust that nice rate of fire produces.
More great info, thanks! I’m thinking of scaling the weight back a little more, especially considering the advancements in lightweight materials you mentioned. Though, the power suit is also fairly large, which might contribute some substantial heft to it. But we’ll definitely be getting a better look at the mech very soon…
I feel like police in this city have a higher death rate than the Red Army
I’m rather surprised that with all this high power weaponry around that the cops aren’t wearing body armor as standard gear. (Of course we wouldn’t get a good look at our bodacious main characters then.)
