Re: Sumter Academy Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct is to be read and signed by parents and students at the time of admission to Sumter Academy. This is a contract between student, parents and the school, governing a student’s attendance at the Academy.

Sumter Academy believes in fostering an orderly, safe learning community which abides by a set of rules. As part of our mission, this Academy aims to teach respect for others as well as respect for rules and regulations. We strongly encourage our students to embody a set of stringent moral values and promote an environment of mutual trust and respect. To this end, students should always uphold the principles of truth, honor, and integrity in all of their intellectual, athletic, and social pursuits.

Our Academy’s founder, Ira Sumter, believed that every student is a responsible individual with an inherent desire to be an honorable person. Such responsibility includes a student’s duty, not only to oneself, but to others. A student should always sustain a system of moral values, especially in the face of adversity.

Sumter Academy’s Codes of Conduct acts as part of the framework to ensure a smooth functioning school community. Since the Code of Conduct is recognized as a contract, any student who violates the terms of the contract will be dealt with accordingly. Sumter believes in firm disciplinary measures and any investigation, adjudication, and consequences will be handled expeditiously. Sumter Academy’s decision in all disciplinary actions is final.

Sumter Academy has zero tolerance for offenses involving cheating, theft, substance abuse, or general conduct unbecoming of a student enrolled in this institution. All students should take the Academy’s Code of Conduct seriously and abide by it at all times. Extreme infractions may lead to expulsion.
