Lights-Out Policy Violations

To All Students:

It has come to my attention that a number of students have been disregarding the lights-out policy.

Many students are remaining awake, using electronic devices, socializing, and creating disturbances long after the designated lights-out time.

This behavior is unacceptable.

The lights-out policy exists to ensure that all students receive adequate rest, maintain their health and well-being, and are prepared for the academic and extracurricular demands of the school day.

Let this also serve as a reminder that even though there are no classes on weekends, dorm policies still apply.

When students stay awake late into the night, it not only affects their own performance and welfare but can disturb roommates, other students, and faculty/staff.

The lights-out policy is not a suggestion or a matter of personal preference.

Effective immediately, the lights-out policy will be enforced more rigorously. Students found violating the policy will face disciplinary action. Consequences may include, but are not limited to:

  • Confiscation of electronic devices during evening hours
  • Disciplinary assignments
  • Further disciplinary measures for repeated offenses

This letter serves as a final warning to the student body. Any student who continues to disregard this rule does so with full knowledge of the consequences.

Lights-out is at 9:30 PM Sunday-Thursday and 10:00 PM Friday-Saturday. I suggest all students take the time to re-familiarize themselves with the Sumter Academy Housing Policy Handbook, Section 4.B.

Your cooperation is expected.

Sincerely,

Ilsa Thorne
